We began our first three days with a focus on animal cards that we pulled before our first walking meditation time. We became clear on the meaning of our animals and learned about Wisdom was the foundational teaching of the week. We learned/reviewed what a fact was, reviewed animal classifications, played with our animal classification cootie catchers and enjoyed some fun subitizing math games! Everyone gt busy researching facts about our animal cards too.
In the afternoons, we focused on creation by creating the animals we pulled in our cards with paint, pencil drawing and modelling clay.
We dove into math and began covering some grade six review concepts, of which Eva completed very well. Abbi reviewed perimeter and utilized an abacus to support her to fins the patterns in the numbers she was working with, specifically around constructing and deconstructing numbers.
We reviewed how to make books and worked with graphic organizers to create a book to remember their special week. Both decided on a touch and feel flip book that they worked very hard on all week these first 3 days to complete.
We also went for a hike together and a play at the playground on Tuesday, to further extend our learning about chickweed and violet. We picked violets, ate some of the flowers and leaves and kept the flowers in our basket over night so the whole room was smelled with the incredible violet smell the next morning.
