Sprouts: Jan 5-7 (Core)

Everyone was warmly welcomed back this week as we moved into the next chapter of the school year. We had Leroy join us for a trial week in the Sprout room. The students were very excited for a new classmate!

Our focus this week was around the changing season and what is happening within nature at this time. Reading “Over and Under the Snow”, students were reminded of all that is still alive during the winter. We did a brainstorming session before the story to see what we could recall from previous lessons. After the story we created a poster illustrating what the students had learned. They worked on the poster throughout the week, continuing to learn about what animals do in winter, tracks and the information they provide, and animal homes. We explored clues on our Tuesday Trek, that gave us information about what is under the snow. We observed those things that were over the snow as well and discussed their purpose (such as dead stems and leaves of plants; food for animals). The poster now hangs on our “Earth Magic” wall as we continue to expand on this knowledge over the next weeks.

During our Morning Movement, we began our self-directed yoga practice where students create a personal yoga routine using our yoga cards. This is an evolved version of our September-December routine where one student is our instructor each week. We also began student-made breaths of the week.

Oakley started us off with “Birthday Breath”, and Lola will share her “Tree Breath” with us on Monday.

It will be Jude’s turn for Mystery Bag on Monday.
