Tuesday started off with our morning circle and sharing school guidelines around circle sharing. Everyone shared their name and age as we all get to know our school family for the year.
After circle Saplings learned more about one another and we started a chart to track likes and dislikes to see what we all have in common.
Math games followed for a quick assessment of subitizing (knowing numbers and quick math). Lots of conversation around how we think and learn happened as well.
Cursive practice began as one of our daily activities as well.
In the afternoon we looked after our worm bin, adding many layers of carbon based material (paper) for the worms to turn into more dirt. We got to say hello to our worm friends, check out the nutritious soil they have already made, and spray the dry material with water to ensure the environment is moist for them. Afterward, we went for a hike, foraged elderberries, played on the swings and explored the creek, noticing all the little fish.
Wednesday we got into more our our daily routine with the introduction of daily rituals. These include:
-chakra meditation (we did the Heart this time)
-drinking 2L of water daily (with lots of sharing about why)
-journaling for 20 minutes (which includes doodling)
-yoga to add movement
We also got into more math games, looking at subitizing again and we played Prime Climb (a great game to assess all math skills easily).
In the afternoon Wednesday we discussed projects we would like to work on this year, more to come about that.
We also worked on our class promise, and enjoyed our first music circle of the year with a variety of instruments, and created maps of our school garden, identifying what is growing and briefly discussing what each plant was for....this will support our Gratitude Feast planning in October.
We had an amazing week and I am personally very excited for what is to come!

Thank you for all of the insight!
