Sprouts: Feb 23-25 (Core)

This week our Core Program observed that our backyard maples were being tapped! This process was started by the Outdoor Program last Thursday. Due to the freeze, not much sap was collected this week however, students got to review the process through the creation of a timeline and books shared throughout the week. They learned how to identify a Sugar Maple in the winter by bark and branch pattern. We recorded the amount of sap collected on a chart throughout the week.

During our Project Period, students practiced using a measuring tape to measure and record objects around the room. This is the same tool we are using to measure our sap collection. New Badge Work projects were started and students completed their colouring sheets for our newest teaching: Control Flaps. We had some great discussions this week around this topic. Jude helped me create a mini tipi with control flaps, to use as our circle symbol for this new teaching.

Leroy created his Food Magic project today: Colour Tornados! These “tornados” were made up of different layers of fruit slushies. Leroy got to use Blue Pea Flower powder to create different colours. He had 5 in total! Everyone loved the special treat.

Jude created a fun slide for his classmates yesterday and they asked for it again today. Mila handed out birthday invitations so everyone thought it would be fun to give her some outdoor surprises: including the slide (and tunnel). Lola and Leroy made her a snow cake and they had a little celebration.

It will be Oakley’s turn for Mystery Bag on Monday.

We are hopeful that Magan will be joining us on Tuesday for wet felting! 🤞🏼
