We started our week off learning about Love, the fifth tipi pile teaching. We learned that the Eagle represent Love and that Love is one of the overlapping teachings between our Tipi Pole teachings and the Seven Sacred Grandfather Teachings. On Wednesday morning we read "Murmel, murmel, murmel" by Robert Munsch. Students identified where love was and wasn't. Our conversation touched on the concept of unconditional love AND holding strong boundaries (saying no) as a loving act for ourselves too.
This week Saplings continued working through their morning exercises, with monumental focus and a genuine interest in gaining educational ground. This week we covered many old and newish math concepts and put them immediately into practice. We covered area, perimeter, 8 & 9 times tables, patterns, shapes and Pythagorean theorem. Next week we will be into time and word problems. We also started tracking the temperature and rainfall and introduced a new remote temperature sensor right in the classroom that tells is date, time, humidity and moon cycle!

Monday afternoon, students had a short introduction to business and created a Venn diagram to help us identify what might be something they would like to create as a business. Business immersion will begin the first week of November, and we will be prepared! Abby chose to sew little bears, so we pulled out the patterns, thread and fabric and set to work.
Tuesday afternoon we baked more cookies because we were all out, then defoliated a mini pepper plant so it van grow peppers again in our school green house. Afterwards, we pulled out the sewing projects again and continued to work on them.
Wednesday afternoon, we enjoyed open centers, which means students got to explore educational materials that suited their interests. In January our focus will shift to badge work so students can identify and learn about their favourite subjects and earn badges to celebrate their learning that are awarded in June at our end of year ceremony. As we near the end of October, we recognize that after business immersion and December events, January will be here before we know it!

Outside at recess this week Jude found a larva inside a Maple Key. We put it under the microscope very carefully and had a super close look.
Please see the notification on the main page of the app for details around our Halloween celebration and Spirit Day.
Make a fantastic weekend everyone!
