Outdoor September 25th

Thursday

We began our day inside due to wet spaces for sitting and cards outside and a slightly later start to the morning. We came out for a walking meditation in the backyard with our animal messengers. Everyone agreed that our sit spots were preferred, so we will resume those tomorrow.

After meditation we read "The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig" while everyone enjoyed their snacks. It was a fun fractured fairy tale, which is the original story of the Three Little Pigs with a big twist. We talked about the shelters the Wolves were making and kindness. After our story we went out into the yard to create our shelter for the day. Everyone shared their ideas, and we decided to build something under the climber so it couldn't be blown over by the wind, and if it started raining hard, we would have strong shelter because the climber was our base. Everyone pitched in and held pegs, ropes, carabiniers, and tarps. Once the shelter was complete, a game of freeze tag ensued. Our yard was filled with lots of exciting sounds this morning.

After playing, we shifted gears to exploring our backyard maps and our compass. We learned how to read our map and noticed the many items on it. We got familiar with our compass and explored how we could get to the back gate by using only our Cardinal directions (N, E, S & W). We made it out of the gate successfully, however we realized our map didn't have any more information for us. We determined that we will be expanding our map so we can see how we get to the park in future. We utilized our compass to get to the back door of the school again, and came back inside to get our waters and the wagon for our hike. Once we were back outside we used our compass to direct us to the street, yelling out the directions we were travelling in. Once at the road, we noticed the green arrows on our compass and how they point between the cardinal directions. We looked for the park and noticed the compass pointed to the park between North and West. So we walked North-West to the park through the grass. After a play at the park, we visited the creek and the swings, then checked our compass to return South-East to the school. We came back for an outdoor lunch in our amazing shelter!

After a later lunch we remained outside playing freely for the rest of the day with our walkey talkeys <3
