Outdoor Nov 6

It was a chilly morning with a few flurries in the air today! We enjoyed free play this morning to begin then came to circle for some energy clearing and an energy filling song. Everyone chose their animal cards, enjoyed cozy sit spots, then we all shared what we noticed. After circle, we headed inside for snack and story to warm our chilly toes and phalanges. At snack we talked about fast energy food (carbs) and long energy foods (proteins) and everyone chose a snack with protein to help keep our bodies warm from the inside this morning.

This morning we read an eye spy book to prepare us for everything we would be finding in nature today. Everyone loved this book and expressed lots of happiness for the opportunity to find items in the book!

We headed back outside to make a shelter in the yard. Everyone agreed that we needed a shelter to get warm in. We found a bunch of dry leaves, raked them into a pile, then covered the leaves with a tarp. We discussed Squirrels who use only leaves high up in the trees to stay warm, and that was where our inspiration came from. We covered our insulated ground tarp with two lead ropes and draped our big tarps over before securing with carabiniers. We all got in and noticed it was much warmer under there just as the sun came out to shine on our shelter.

After building our shelter we headed to the park to look at the Creek and see how swollen it was, some free play on the swings, then a walkie talky scavenger hunt by popular demand. Once complete, we headed back for a late lunch and warm tea.

After lunch we headed back out to build a fire and roast marshmallows after hunting for just the right sticks in the forest on our morning hike. We had our sharing board to close out our day.
