Outdoor Jan 29&30

Thursday

Today began with a later circle and everyone was ready to shift energy. We discussed our feelings and how we could move our energy with the tools we know. We sang our 7 directions song to call in the energy of the elements, then activated our intuition and chose our animal cards. Everyone was focused during sit spot time and everyone shared what they noticed during that time afterward. We ohmed while holding hands to end our circle and prepared for story and snack.

Today we read Stella, Queen of the Snow and everyone was pointing out what was true and not about what Stella was sharing with her little brother Sam in the story.

After the story we shifted gears to discussing what we want to plant in the school garden this coming spring. We made a list of all the plants the students mentioned, along with a list of what is already planted in place in the garden from last year. Everyone looked through our seed catalogues and created pictures of what we would like to see in our gardens to take home and share with parents.

We explored our maps from last week, finding our stars to indicate where the school is on the map, then added the Cardinal directions to our map from memories of our 7 directions song.

After our paperwork we enjoyed some free time playing with the doll house, followed by an hour outside taking turns making snow angels, mini snowmen and sledding down the snow piles.

After we returned inside and ate lunch, everyone got busy learning with the materials in the room. Bird bingo was a big hit, as was the food chain. We also drained our cleaner, removing the pine needles and orange peels. It smells great!

Friday

Today was Leroy's last day in the Outdoor Program. We had an open day, which meant we brought out aaaalllll the instruments, aaaalllll the costumes and rolled with whatever both students were wanting.

It was clear from morning circle that imaginations were activated today, so after our song and ohms, we started making music. We recorded ourselves playing together, then the boys suggested making a movie!! So, they chose what actions they would like to do and I put the sound file and video files together in a little movie that is private and can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/ACbKN5dHW5g?si=PNG0dtdcnA0zA2Ty

Our story during snack time was "Put Me In The Zoo", and there were many predictions throughout the story about what might happen next. Ultimately, some friends helped the spot-changing dog learn that the Zoo was not for him...the Circus was!

After snack, both boys were deep in their imaginations playing well together when they asked if we could make cars today....this activated my imagination and we utilized some new free resources to create cars with wheels that rolled from simple materials in the classroom: paperboard, straws, scissors and tape!

After we were done playing we realized the time!!! It flew by! We cleaned up our space and made cookies together. The cookie lesson took much longer than anticipated, so we did not get outside today.

Create the most beautiful weekend!
