It was so lovely to welcome everyone this week! We spent the last two days getting to know one another and our learning environment. The returning Sprouts had opportunities to step into leadership roles if it felt good to them. It was great to have helpers to guide our new students through our daily flow.
We created a chart of the topics that students are interested in learning about (so far) this year. This will lay the foundation for our project-based learning throughout the year.
With much discussion around respect and school expectations, we brainstormed our class “promise” for the new school year. Students understand that a promise is when you say you are going to do something and you follow through with it. We discussed how sometimes you may promise something and then change your mind about wanting to follow though. Students understood that communicating this change is the respectful way to move forward with that. In regards to our classroom promises, our promise is to try our best and choose to learn from our mistakes. We also spoke about consequences and how those connect to continually breaking a promise and choosing not to learn from the experience.
Thank you to all families for promptly shifting what was necessary to accommodate our fragrance-free policy. We truly appreciate your efforts and had a successful two days with the new policy in tact. Just a reminder to any adults who are coming into the school to drop off: please ensure your body is fragrance-free as well. If you are unable to do so, we ask that you drop off at the door rather than entering the coat room. Thanks for understanding!
