Sprouts: Oct 20-22 (Core)

This week we explored our senses, with a focus on taste and the tongue. This was one of the topics students wanted to learn more about this year and with Halloween coming up, we had the opportunity to make the connection between our body and its potential consumption. We will also be reviewing the microbiome next week, supporting students in making informed decisions around holiday traditions that can be less supportive to their health. Students explored some senses while playing Bop It, exercising their sight, sound and touch. Moving onto our tongue focus, we discussed taste buds and the different areas of the tongue where they are found. The Sprouts drew a diagram of the tongue in their portfolios. We also did a taste test to explore the 5 flavour profiles: sweet, salty, sour, bitter and savoury.

Students continued their learning around short vowel sounds this week with a focus on short a. They participated in a word hunt around the classroom, printing and stretching out words. We then sorted the words into families and discussed rhyming. We used our Boom Clap game to practice recognition of these words as well.

Today, for well-being Wednesday we played some freeze dance and then ended the day with a peaceful meditation called “Rocket Ship Journey”.

Lola did a great job starting off our Mystery Bag this week! It will be Mila’s turn on Monday.

Please ensure you read our latest announcement about Halloween. 🎃
