Saplings Core Sept 22-24

Our week began with Apples and ended with Apples!

Monday

Our morning was spent preparing for adding short 1 minute math assessments for tomorrow and realizing that there is space in the morning for free time and game play when we are diligent with our studies.

Our afternoon started out picking Apples from the neighbours tree (always with permission). We learned to pick by turning the Apple's eye (where the flower was) to the sky. If it doesn't pop off easily, then we leave it. Last year we had no apples because two years ago we were not very careful with picking. We were very happy to see Apples again this year!! Check out the Sprout post later today for images from "The Picking".

After picking, we visited the kitchen, washed all the apples and counted out 10 to peel and make apple chips with in our dehydrator. Students filled out a step by step worksheet about what we did for their portfolios. Once we were complete with Apples, we returned to the classroom for a good game of Prime Climb to wrap up.

Tuesday

Tuesday morning everyone was ready to rock with their studies and our morning routine flowed and made space for a quick math assessment. Everyone did very well and it was a really informative exercise. We utilized the number one strategy for emergent mathematicians...if you aren't sure, skip it! Afterwards, we discussed individually which questions were tricky and I learned a lot about the capacity of our students this year.

In the afternoon, we learned about the Nutrition of Apples with a focus on the vitamins involved and the benefits they have for our bodies. Earth food is the stuff our bodies know what to do with! We packed up and ate our apple chips by separating all the chips by tray and one tray was divided into 4 sections. We set some aside for Ralph & Carmel, the owners of the property where the tree grows, and wrote them a nice thank you letter.

Once complete with Apple studies, we shifted back to Crystal Grids, utilizing dousing rods to see if there was a difference before and after we activated the grid. The dousing rods showed us there was!! We, unfortunately, were unable to detect a shift with our bodies. We sat inside the field of energy from the grid and had a short meditation.

Wednesday

Wednesday was our first Spirit day of the year!! We spent the morning dressing up, playing games and having a fun time!! In our space we had an epic almost all day game of cribbage wars before I was beaten by a landslide, with Corbin taking the crown.

The Sprouts made delicious Applesauce, and we delivered our goodies (Apple sauce and chips) to our neighbour's front door as a special thank you for sharing.

We spent the afternoon listening to music and finishing up games.

Oh! My Tickle Trunk made an appearance today and we all celebrated our Spirit with some dress up time in the morning and after lunch as well.
