This week we got to add Oakley’s mythical creatures to our map and hear his presentation. The excitement was wonderful! We read through our “Illustrated Atlas of Canada” this week, exploring each province a bit further. Students briefly learned about the different plants, animals and natural wonders in the provinces and territories. Lola also presented some badge work on Bees.
Jessica supported the Sprouts in exploring their Solar Plexus energy this week. They learned that this chakra is their power centre and practiced tapping into the power with a power stance and big voices.
During our project period, students explored a variety of ways to practice their letter sounds, alphabetical order, the magic e, and short and long vowel sounds. They’ve also been completing life cycles, and working on creating songs as part of their Drum Badge.
Tuesday Trek took us into the park to explore the new plants sprouting up. We saw speedwell, dandelion, violet, and celandine. Students had stick races on the bridge and enjoyed the playground in the beautiful weather.
Today we recognized Earth Day with a beautiful story called “My Friend Earth”. We read this in our morning circle, allowing all of our teachings to surface throughout the book and making those connections aloud. We also began prepping for paper making, which we will continue next week. We discussed the importance of reusing and recycling to reduce waste. We also noted that every day is earth day at TSOP! 🙌🏼
At recess we heard so many beautiful bird songs. I brought out my bird song ID app, and we were able to identify sparrow, cardinal, junco and siskin. The app is called: Merlin Bird ID.
There was lots of creation fun with the pattern blocks this week. We ended the day with a meditation and intuitive crystal pick.
It will be Jude’s turn for Mystery Bag on Monday.
