This we introduced our 6th teaching of Faith. Students began experiencing accountability around their actions and what they believe to be true about themselves. We all get to be in alignment with our words and actions.
Our morning activities this week included Sudoku as a new math game, our typical language and math activities that reviewed multiplication and supports, word problems and math minutes. We had the highest scores yet from all student math minutes this week! Their practice is paying off!
In our afternoons this week, we tended our garden by harvesting the last of the harvestable items after the killing frost on Sunday night. We were able to pick a few large carrots, many green tomatoes, dried kidney beans and the last few sweet potato squash. After harvesting, we pulled out the tomato and squash plants and added another section of potatoes to see how they will overwinter. We raked leaves from the front yard into our garden to keep it cozy and insulated over the winter. We harvested all of the Mullein candles from our two plants, as well as many tiny Mullein seeds. The Mullein candles will be used for a special project for our next sale day
This week also saw us thinking about what we could create from our squash and tomatoes. We settled on Squash Brownies and Green Tomato Jam. Both recipes were a hit! We saved the brownies for our Spirit Day celebrations and learned what it takes to process the jam so everyone could take a sample home. Your student will arriving home with a little jam jar sample after our tasting at school. There is organic cane sugar in the jam, as well as ginger, cinnamon, cloves, green tomatoes, lemon juice and lemon rind.
Our Spirit Day afternoon consisted of our special snacks plus everyone's favourite things: sewing and board games! We also got busy learning some Halloween songs this week to perform with the Sprouts for a fun experience on Spirit Day!
We hope you enjoy!
